Medals

Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations of 26th/27th August which resulted in the capture of FOUCAUCOURT. This N.C.O. was in charge of an advanced post on the afternoon of 27th August which was being heavily shelled and swept continuously by machine gun fire, and ultimately was blown in burying several of the garrison. He worked untiringly digging out his men and then established another post further forward under heavy fire. During the advance and later in the day he led his platoon forward under heavy machine gun fire, showing an utter disregard for personal danger and setting a fine example to his men. His determination and bold action throughout the operation helped in no small measure to its success.'
