Embarked Alexandria on 'Ionian' and proceeded to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 2 March 1915. Promoted to rank of Corporal, 29 June 1915. Found guilty at Imbros, 14 July 1915, of being absent without leave, 11 July 1915: forfeits 1 day's pay. Admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, Gallipoli, 16 August 1915. Embarked HS 'Scotial' and proceeded to Egypt, 16 August 1916; admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Cairo, 25 August 1916; transferred to No 3 Auxiliary Convalescent Depot, Cairo, 25 August 1915; rejoined unit, Gallipoli, 25 October 1915. Found guilty by Field General Court Martial, Lemnos, 17 December 1915, of being absent without leave while on active service, 6 December, to 3.00 pm, 11 December 1915: reduced to the ranks as finding; disembarked Alexandria from 'Seang Bee', 29 December 1915; posted as deserter, Serapeum, 11 March 1916; rejoined unit from details, Serapeum, 13 March 1916.
