Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery in a raid on BOIS-de-VAIRE, east of CORBIE, on 15th June, 1918. Throughout the operation he displayed considerable leadership and carried his party, though held up by wire, in splendid formation to the objective. Here he was conspicuous under heavy fire from the flank, walking quietly about and directing the work of his men. Later his hands were blown off in the attempt to case away an enemy bomb which must have caused serious casualties to others. When stretcher bearers attempted to reach him across about 20 yards of fire swept road, he ordered them to stay still and crawled across to them despite his serious wounds. His courage and example were the admiration of all ranks.'
