'On the 16th October, 1917, near WESTHOEK, east of YPRES, Lance Corporal CAWSTON was in charge of two Pontoon Wagons getting material to forward areas. The enemy shelling was severe, but by his coolness, persistence and watching for opportunities, he got the wagons through the shelled areas three times. he repeated this performance on the 17th and 18th October, 1917, similarly. This N.C.O. was mentioned in despatches published in May last.'
