Military Medal 'This private has always shown great courage in facing the enemy fire. On the morning of September 2nd when advancing through PERONNE the Officer in charge of the party was wounded and 2 of the team were gassed. Private CHALKER took charge of the team and continued to advance with the Infantry . Sending back information as to the state of affairs and moving forward under heavy fire until wounded himself.'
