Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at St. Martin's Wood on 23rd August 1918. He led twelve men forward in the face of heavy machine gun and shell fire 300 yards in front of our line, and succeeded in establishing a post. It was owing to his determined leading that this was accomplished.'
