War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 11 November 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 30 January 1917, and marched in to Australian Details, Perham Downs. Regimental No changed to 30910. Proceeded overseas to France, 15 March 1917; transferred to 4th Division artillery, 23 March 1917. Mustered as Driver, 16 May 1917; reverted to Gunner at own request, 13 December 1917. On leave to Paris, 22 January 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 31 January 1918. On leave to United Kingdom, 4 March 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 20 March 1918. Found guilty, 21 October 1918, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he used improper language in the presence of his superior officer: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2. On leave to Paris, 25 February 1919; rejoined unit from leave, 16 March 1919. Marched out for return to Australia, 12 April 1919.
