Military Medal 'On September 29th, 1918, South west of LE CATELET, Sapper Chapman with another sapper [3549 F.V. GALLWEY], were supervising an infantry party clearing a track through wire and over trenches for the passage of artillery. His party caught up with the most advanced infantry, their advance having been stopped by heavy machine gun and shell fire and who had been ordered to dig in. In spite of this fire, which was causing many casualties, Sapper Gallwey worked in the open for over an hour clearing the track and removing anti-tank mines. His conduct throughout was most gallant and an inspiration to those with him.'
