'On 12th October 1917, East of YPRES, he displayed conspicuous Gallantry and devotion to duty in action. this N.C.O. did fine work in organising parties of stretcher bearers, leading them forward and locating and bringing in the wounded. he obtained valuable information by reconnaissance carried out within the enemy's lines and showed to his men an example of gallantry which was most inspiring.'
