War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front

Taken on strength, 3rd Bn, Gallipoli, 2 November 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, Egypt, 29 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation).

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 22 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 28 March 1916.

Wounded in action, 3 July 1916 (gun shot wound, right hand); admitted to 10th General Hospital, Rouen, 24 July 1916. Transferred to England, 26 July 1916, and admitted to 5th Southern General Hospital, Portsmouth. Marched in to No. 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 20 August 1916; granted furlough, 29 August 1916. Found guilty, 30 September 1916, of neglecting to obey the orders of a superior officer and of insubordination: awarded 14 days' detention.

Proceeded overseas to France, 22 October 1916; rejoined unit, 16 November 1916.

Wounded in action, 28 January 1917 (shrapnel wound, leg, ankle, back); transferred to 9th General Hospital, Rouen, and placed on seriously ill list, 10 February 1917. Died of multiple gun shot wounds, 22 March 1917.
