War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 2 March 1915. Wounded in action, 3 September 1915 (leg, severe), and admitted to No 1 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, Anzac Base; transferred same day to HS 'Salter', and thence to Alexandria, 9 September 1915; transferred to Government Hospital, Ras el Tin, 16 October 1915 (gun shot wound: severe); discharged to Overseas Base, Ghezireh, 11 December 1915. Employed as a Permanent Escort between Cairo and Alexandria, 16 February 1916. Admitted to No 2 Australian Stationary Hospital, Tel el Kebir, 23 April 1916 (venereal disease); transferred to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Abbassia, 24 April 1916; discharged to Overseas Details, 7 June 1916; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 46 days. Embarked Alexandria for England, 29 July 1916; marched into 3rd Training Bn, Perham Downs, 9 August 1916.
