War service: Egypt, Western Front Transferred to 2nd Division Ammunition Column, Zeitoun, 11 March 1916; taken on strength, 19 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 20 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 27 March 1916. Appointed Driver, 12 May 1916.On leave to England, 5 August 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 18 August 1917. Found guilty, 29 September 1917, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he used obscene language whilst on parade: awarded 2 days' Field Punishment No 2. On leave to England, 21 March 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 11 April 1918. Admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, 16 December 1918 (fractured left radius), and transferred to 41st Casualty Clearing Station; to 2nd General Hospital, Havre, 23 December 1918; discharged to Base Depot, 7 January 1919; rejoined unit, 13 January 1919. Marched out to England for return to Australia, 6 May 1919. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Karmala', 1 July 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 17 August 1919; discharged (termination of period of enlistment), Melbourne, 10 October 1919.
