Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, in the advance near Lihons on 10 August 1918. He, with three others, captured a strong post, killing the crew of a machine gun, and enabling the advance to continue. When all the N.C.O.'s in the vicinity had become casualties he collected stragglers and led them through the wood, advancing with a patrol 400 yards towards the enemy's defences, bringing in useful information to the company commander.'
