Admitted to No 1 Australian General Hospital, 25-29 April 1915; transferred to Helouan Convalescent Camp, 22 May 1915; rejoined unit at Gallipoli, 22 June 1915. Admitted to No 1 Field Ambulance, 18 August 1915 (disc. finger, left hand, and diarrhoea); transferred to No 1 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 20 August 1915; to England, 19 August 1915, and admitted to Bethnal Green Military Hospital, London, 1 September 1915. Returned to Egypt with 17th Draft, 14 February 1916; rejoined Bn, Serapeum, 11 March 1916.

Field General Court Martial, Devonshire Lines, France, 19 October 1917: Charge: While on Active Service deserting His Majesty's Service in that he was absent without leave, 7 pm, 3 October 1917, to 10 am, 7 October 1917, his Regiment at the time being in the 'Front Line'. Found guilty: awarded 2 years' imprisonment with hard labour. 'Court recommended the accused to mercy on account of his long services & excellent record'. Sentence suspended.
