Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 27 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 3 April 1916. Admitted to 36th General Hospital, Etaples, 6 May 1916 (influenza); trasferred to 26th General Hospital, 7 May 1916 (influenza and pleurisy); to England, 14 May 1916; admitted 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 31 May 1916; transferred to Lady Northcote's Hospital, 21 June 1916; marched in to No 4 Command Depot, Wareham, 7 November 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 28 November 1916. rejoined 20th Bn, in the field, 26 December 1916. Wounded in action, Belgium 9 October 1917 (gun shot wound, nose), admitted to 64th Field Ambulance and transferred to 37th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 14, 10 October 1917, and admitted same day to 14th Stationary Hospital, Boulogne. Transferred to England, 15 October 1917, and admitted to Wallington Road Auxiliary Hospital, affiliated with 1st Western General Hospital, Liverpool, 15 October 1917 (wound: slight).
