Admitted to 12th Australian Field Ambulance, 1 November 1916 (injury to face); transferred to 47th Casualty Clearing Station, 1 November 1916; to Ambulance Train No 23, 4 November 1916; to 1st Canadian General Hospital, 5 November 1916; to 6th Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 10 November 1916; to 5th Convalescent Depot, Cayeux, 12 November 1916; discharged to Base Details, 28 March 1917; rejoined unit, 17 June 1917.

Letter from CO stated 'this man received his injury - fractured upper jaw - in falling into a cellar the door of which had been left open. The accident occurred at Louge 26/10/16 during the evening & he was evacuated to Hospital on 28/10/16 at Brucamps.'

Admitted to 24th Field Ambulance, 17 April 1918 (purphigas); transferred to 20th Casualty Clearing Station, 17 April 1918 (laryngitis); to 5th General Hospital, Rouen, 19 April 1918; to England, 25 April 1918, and admitted to Exeter War Hospital, 26 April 1918 (gassed, mustard shell: severe); to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 17 July 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Sardinia', 19 October 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 27 December 1918, for onward travel to Sydney; discharged Sydney, 8 December 1918.
