Military Medal 'At Broodseinde on the night of 14/15th October, 1917, this N.C.O. with one man carried out a daring patrol at great risk, pushing forward 700-800 yards and locating enemy placements. He also worked over a wide front and gained valuable information. On the 15th October, in daylight, he again went out with one man. On this occasion he worked forward 800 yards and got past a hostile post of four men without being observed. He remained watching the enemy's lines for about one hour and then returned unobserved. Only strict orders to the contrary prevented him him from engaging the hostile posts. Throughout he worked with great energy and was a most valuable asset in his platoon. During the periods of heavy shelling on our line he did much in keeping the morale of his whole company up to a high standard.' Recommendation date: |
