'During the attack on the BEAUREVOIR system, North of ST. QUENTIN, on 3rd October, 1918, this N.C.O. voluntarily carried ammunition and bombs to Companies in the line under very heavy machine gun fire at a time when it was urgently needed. He personally attended to the organisation of all Lewis guns and their sections and carried forward ammunition to isolated gun teams. Sergeant CLARK also carried important messages to and from company Headquarters and Companies. While so employed he was hindered by a party of enemy snipers whom he fired on, killing one and dispersing the others.'
