War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front

Joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 8 May 1915. Transferred to 5th Battery, 3 June 1915. Transferred to Rest Camp, Lemnos, 14 September 1915; rejoined unit at Gallipoli. 6 October 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 22 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation).

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 22 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 28 March 1916.

Found guilty, 11 June 1917, of being absent without leave, 6.30-11 am, 8 June 1917: awarded 2 days' Field Punishment No 2.

On leave to England, 19 September 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 9 October 1917.

Wounded in action, Belgium, 3 November 1917 (gas), and adsmitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance. Transferred to 2nd Stationary Hospital, Abbeville, 5 November 1917; to England, 19 November 1917, and admitted to 2nd London General Hospital, Chelsea, 20 November 1917. Discharged on furlough, 1 January 1918, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 15 November 1918. Found guilty, 3 February 1918, of being absent without leave, 6.30 pm, 19 February-8 am, 21 February 1918: admonished and forfeited 3 days' pay. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 5 March 1918; discharged, 16 April 1918; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 43 days. Marched in to No 1 Command Depot, 5 June 1918; to Overseas Training Brigade, 24 July 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 4 October 1918; rejoined unit, 12 October 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Port Hacking', 3 December 1918 (1914 Personnel); disembarked Melbourne, 27 January 1919; discharged Melbourne (termination of period of enlistment), 28 March 1919.
