'Near Rosiers, on the night of 22nd-23rd August, 1918, he showed great skill and courage in pushing up R.E. material through heavy artillery and machine gun fire, and it was mainly through his untiring efforts that the work of consolidation was able to be commenced immediately the attacking troops reached their objective.'
