Military Medal 'During the attack on POLYGON WOOD on September 20th, Sapper CLARK displayed conspicuous gallantry in carrying out his duty as linesman. Soon after the attack began a Section of the buried cable route was cut by shell fire and Sapper CLARK went out immediately and laid a tempory overland line connecting the two points concerned. Although wounded in the leg and arm, Sapper CLARK then went through a very heavy barrage and effected repairs on the Buried Cable Route. It was due to his efforts that it was possible to telephone valuable information to the rear.'
