'Near WARNETON, during a raid on the enemy on the night 30th November, 1st December 1917, this N.C.O. displayed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was detailed for Bayonet work and in this capacity did very fine work. He stormed the enemy trenches with great vigour and entered 2 dugouts and cleared them of their garrisons and set a fine example to the remainder of his party. Strength of raiding party - 4 officers and 82 other ranks.'
