'On morning of 14th instant near MORLANCOURT south of Albert???, he performed very gallant work as stretcher bearer during the enemy attack. CLARKE was bearing during the whole morning and moved about fearlessly while exposed to heavy barrage and Machine Gun fire. His example was a very fine, and the work done, very effective. After the enemy had been driver from our line, and the positions restored, this man continued his work of rescuing the wounded from the open under particularly dangerous condition.'
