War service: Egypt, Western Front Granted leave with pay and subsistence, 12 June-12 August 1919 (Non-Military Employment: pultry farming, attending Kenmore Poultry Farm, Charing, Kent). Reported to AIF Headquarters, 13 August 1919; granted 14 days' leave, to report to AIF Depot, Sutton Veny, 28 August 1919, to await allotment of transport for return to Australia. Did not march in to Sutton Veny, but disappeared. Struck of the strength of the AIF 'in consequence of desertion, 1 April 1920', and forfeited all entitlements, including war medals. Subseuqently discovered living in Malherb, near Maidstone. Kent, working on the farm of a Mr Kitchen under the assumed name of MURRAY. Medal entitlements etc restored, 9 January 1926.
