War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney on HMAT 'Euripides', 31 October 1917; disembarked Devonport, 26 December 1917, and marched into 13th Training Bn, Codford. Proceeded to France through Southampton, 12 March 1918; marched into 4th Australian Infantry Base Depot, Havre, 13 March 1918; marched out to unit, 14 March 1918; taken on strength of 52nd Bn in the field, 18 March 1918. Admitted to 29th Casualty Clearing Station, 5 April 1918; transferred to Ambulance Train '27', 6 April 1918; to 56th General Hospital, 7 April 1918 (shrapnel wound, ankle). Proceeded to England on HS 'Newhaven', 10 April 1918; admitted to 1st Birmingham War Hospital, Rednal, 11 April 1918; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 27 May 1918; discharged to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 23 August 1918; marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 9 September 1918. Found guilty, 4 November 1918, of neglect to obey Australian Imperial Force Depot Order 2256 of 16 October 1917 in that he was in Weymouth without a pass: reprimanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Lane.
