Proceeded overseas to France, 23 November 1916. Appointed Lance Corporal, 4 December 1916. Admitted to 10th Field Ambulance, 30 December 1916 (scabies); transferred to 1st Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, 3 January 1917 (pediculosis); discharged to duty, 4 January 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 4 January 1917. Wounded in action, 31 January 1917 (gun shot wound, head and shoulder), and admitted to 9th Field Ambulance, and transferred to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station.
