Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry, near BIRR CROSS ROADS on 20th September, 1917, when an enemy shell set fire to an ammunition dump a few yards from a gun pit. With considerable presence of mind, this N.C.O. procured water and, admist exploding ammunition, extinguished the fire. his resourcefulness undoubtedly saved a considerable amount of ammunition and probably damage to a gun.'
