Embarked Sydney, 25 November 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 29 January 1917. Marched in to 4th Training Bn, Codford, 30 January 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 4 June 1917; taken on strength, 15th Bn, 21 June 1917.

Admitted to 4th Australian Field Ambulance, 2 October 1917, and transferred to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station; to 2nd Canadian General Hospital, 4 October 1917; to England, 18 October 1917, and admitted to Bath War Hospital, 20 October 1917 (trench fever); to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 5 December 1917; discharged on furlough, 17 December 1917, to report to No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 31 December 1917. Marched in to Overseas Training Brigade, 19 January 1918; proceeded overseas to France, 14 February 1918; rejoined unit, 21 February 1918.

Wounded in action, 26 February 1918 (shot wound, right leg); admitted to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station, 27 February 1918; transferred to 55th General Hospital, Boulogne, 28 February 1918; to England, 5 March 1918, and admitted to Frensham Hill Military Hospital; transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 25 April 1918; discharged to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 29 April 1918; marched in to Overseas Training Brigade, 26 August 1918; proceeded overseas to France, 17 October 1918; rejoined Bn, 20 October 1918.

Marched out to England for Non-Military Employment, 1 April 1919. Granted leave from 9 April to 9 July 1919 with pay, to undertake farming with C. Clinch, Ballylusk, Wexford, Ireland.

On expiration of NME leave, returned to London. Committed suicide whilst temporarily insane (finding of Court of Enquiry, London, 15 July 1919); brought in dead to Endell Street Military Hospital, London, 15 July 1919.

Accorded full military funeral, burial service at Brookwood Cemetery conducted by Major Father Murphy, Australian Military Headquarters, London.
