Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in charge of a bombing attack which was held up by machine gun fire. He alone jumped on the parapet and advanced within bombing range, and succeeded in killing many of the enemy and forcing the remainder to retire, thus enabling our men to advance.'
