Found guilty, 18 October 1916, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he fell out of the line of march without permission: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Admitted to 5th Field Ambulance, 26 November 1916 (myalgia); transferred to 38th Casualty Clearing Station, 28 November 1916; to 2nd General Hospital, Havre, 30 November 1916.

Found guilty, 15 December 1916, of when on Active Service conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline, viz. using obscene language to an NCO, and failing to comply with an order given by an NCO: forfeited 5 days' pay.

Tried by Field General Court Martial, 28 December 1916: when on Active Service striking his superior Officer, in that he, at Havre on 15 December 1916, struck No 793 CSM McGOWRAN, Army Gymnasium Staff, on the face with his fist; pleaded 'Guilty'; found 'Guilty': awarded 1 year's imprisonment with hard labour.

Marched into detention barracks, Havre, 21 December 1916. Sentence suspended from 4 January 1917; rejoined 32nd Bn, in the field, 12 January 1917.

On leave to England, 28 August 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, from leave, 10 September 1917.

Found guilty, 7 January 1918, of leaving a working party without permission: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Detached for traffic duty, 5th Division, 25 January 1918; rejoined Bn, 15 March 1918.

Found guilty, of being absent without leave, 8 pm, 25 April, to 10 am, 26 April 1918: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 30 days' pay.

Wounded in action, 29 July 1918 (gun shot wound, right side), and admitted to 20th Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to Ambulance Train No 38, 7 August 1918, and admitted to 32nd Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 8 August 1918; transferred to England, 15 August 1918, and admitted to Addershot Hospital, Cambridge, 16 August 1918 (wound: severe); transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 23 August 1918; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 27 August 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Sardinia', 19 October 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 27 December 1918, for onward travel to Adelaide; discharged (medically unfit: gun shot wound), Adelaide, 3 April 1919.
