Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When his officer became a casualty by his splendid courage and organization he rallied his men and got his guns into action at the first objective. When the enemy attempted to turn the flank of the brigade, he went forward on his own initiative and broke up the enemy's attack. He cut off a large number of the enemy, who surrendered. By skilful handling of his men he saved many casualties and set a splendid example of courage and coolness throughout.'
