Medals

Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in charge of a machine gun which was pushed out into "No Man's Land" to protect the flank of an attack. Upon the attack opening he noticed a hostile machine gun enfilading the attacking waves, and immediately engaged this gun at 50 yards. He put it out of action, killing one of the gunners, wounding another, while a third and the machine gun were captured and brought back. By his great courage and determined action he undoubtedly saved many casualties, and materially assisted in the success of the attack.'
