Meritorious Service Medal

'This man has been a D Company runner in the Battalion ever since its formation. He has done splendid work in the action at FLEURBAIX, in the SOMME operations (including the taking of BAPAUME) and also in the operations around YPRES during September and October, 1917. He has repeatedly carried important messages from Company to Battalion Headquarters under heavy fire, and has always set a splendid example to the other runners of the Battalion.'

Transferred to England, 19 October 1918, and admitted to Beaufort War Hospital, Bristol, 20 October 1918; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 27 November 1918; discharged on furlough, 23 December 1918, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 6 January 1919.

Awarded Military Medal.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Lancashire', 7 February 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 31 March 1919; discharged (medically unfit), Melbourne, 19 August 1919.
