Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry in action at WESTHOEK. During the attack on the morning of the 2th inst., [2 September 1918] he showed the utmost coolness and courage whilst under heavy shell fire carrying ammunition to the frontline. When returning he in Coy. [sic] with Pte LORIMER found a wounded runner of a attacking Btn. carrying a important despatch. He took the despatch and delivered it and retuned with a Stretcher. He and Pte. LORIMER carried the wounded runner to the dressing station. Pte. ADAM has since been evacuated wounded.'
