War service: Western Front Embarked Adelaide, 9 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 20 July 1916. Found guilty, 23 October 1916, of being absent without leave from midnight, 20-21 October, to 6.30 pm, 24 October 1916: awarded 14 days' confined to barracks and forfeited 4 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 25 November 1916. Detached to Divisional School, 10 June 1917; rejoined 43rd Bn, 17 July 1917. On leave to England, 2 January 1918; rejoined Bn, 21 January 1918. Detached to Australian infantry Base Depot, 27 June 1918. Invalided to England, 9 July 1918 (hernia);marched in to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 10 July 1918. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Medic', 24 August 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 11 October 1918, for onward travel by train to Adelaide, 15 October 1918; discharged, Adelaide, 28 October 1918 (medically unfit).
