Wounded in action, Gallipoli, 2 May 1915 (gun shot wound, shoulder); admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, 7 May 1915; transferred to Convalescent Camp, Helouan, Egypt, 27 May 1915; to Base Details, Zeitoun, 4 June 1915; embarked Alexandria for Gallipoli, 4 July 1915. Admitted to 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital, Mudros, 21 July 1915 (diarrhoea); transferred to England, 17 August 1915, and admitted to Military Hospital, New End, Hampstead, 31 August 1915 (shock from shell explosion); to No 1 australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 16 September 1915 (bullet wound, left shoulder).

Commenced return to Australia from Portland on board HT 'Star of England', 12 December 1915; discharged, 6 August 1916.
