Found guilty, at sea, 8 May 1916, of leaving the ship without permission, and being absent without leave: awarded 72 hours' detention, and forfeited 4 days' pay. Admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, 15 August 1916 (defective vision); discharged to 7th Training Bn, 28 August 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 25 April 1917; taken on strength, 26th Bn, in the field, 2 May 1917. Admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance, Belgium, 17 November 1917 (debility); transferred same day to 2nd Australian Division Rest Station; discharged to duty and rejoined Bn, 25 November 1917.
