'Displayed great skill and gallantry in handling his gun in action near ZONNEBEKE on 26th September, 1917. When a party of the enemy were holding up the attack he brought his gun into action and disposed of them, he also showed great courage and set a fine example to others near him in assisting to repel counter attacks.'
