'At BRESELE near ALBERT on 30th May, 1918 a gun pit containing a gun and ammunition and covered with camouflage was set on fire by an enemy shell. Although the ammunition was exploding and the fire raging fiercely this N.C.O. went into the pit and after fighting the flames for some minutes succeeded in extinguishing the fire, thereby saving the gun and a large quantity of ammunition, valuable stores and equipment.'
