Military Medal 'On the night 1st/2nd May, 1918, he was a member of a raiding party, and displayed great gallantry and devotion to duty. After two enemy posts had been driven back to the main line, he stood at the enemy wire and engaged an enemy machine gun with bombs, thus preventing the gun from firing, and covering the withdrawal of the raiding party with their wounded. he remained there until wounded in the head. This raid took place immediately east of SAILLY-LE-SEC.'
