Meritorious Service Medal

'For meritorious service and devotion to duty. This soldier has been conspicuous for his courage and devotion to duty, particularly during the operations from VILLERS BRETONNEUX to PERONNE, August - September 1918. He is the first to volunteer for special transport work, taking him to forward positions under fire, regardless of his own personal risk. His courage and cheerfulness is an example to all.'
