Military Medal 'During the advance towards RAINECOURT, East of AMIENS, on 9th August 1918, the machine gun fire of the enemy greatly held up the advance of many of his company. This man several times returned through this fire and directed and led others forward who had become disorganised. On reaching the final objective his Platoon Sergeant was seriously wounded - he alone carried him back over 300 yards to safety and at once returned. He again carried out another wounded man and on 5 occasions carried messages along the front and to the rear, absolutely regardless of both artillery and machine gun fire. His services were at all times during the advance of the utmost value to his platoon and Company Commanders, his information being always reliable and correct.'
