War service: Western Front Transferred to Australian Army Service corps, Motor Transport, 20 February 1916, and appointed Driver, and attached to 3rd Australian Tunnelling Company for duty. Disembarked Marseilles, France, and entrained for Hazebrouck, 5 May 1916; detrained at Hazebrouck, 8 May 1916. Attached for duty with No 4 Section, 254th Tunnelling Company, Royal Engineers, in the field, 13 May 1916. Proceeded on leave, 7 February 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 22 February 1918. Taken on strength from No 3 Motor Transport Company, and remained attached for duty with 3rd Australian Tunnelling Company. 13 March 1918.
