'The gallant conduct and devotion to duty during the fighting near ZONNEBEKE on 26th September 1917. Under extremely heavy fire he continuously dressed and carried wounded over very marshy and difficulty ground. He displayed absolute disregard of self and his conduct, did much to inspire confidence in others.'
