Wounded in action, 3-4 May 1917 (gun shot wound, forehead: severe); admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, 3 May 1917, and transferred to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station; to England, 17 May 1917, and admitted to King George Hospital, 18 May 1917; transferred to No 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 7 July 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 12 July 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Demosthenes', 27 July 1917; disembarked Melbourne, 24 September 1917, for onward overland travel to Brisbane; discharged (medically unfit: fractured skull), Brisbane, 3 November 1917.
