War service: Egypt, Western Front Disembarked Suez, ex-HMAT 'Geelong', 18 December 1915. Found guilty, 17 May 1916, of (1) leaving fatigue parade without authority, (2) using threatening language to his superior officer: awarded 14 days' confined to barracks and forfeited 7 days' pay. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916. Found guilty, 6 July 1916, of (1) leaving his picquet without permission, (2) being absent without leave from 0915 hours until 2130 hours: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2 and forfeits 1 day's pay. Wounded in action, 19 July 1916; admitted to No 15 Field Ambulance, then No 8 Casualty Clearing Station, 20 July 1916 (gun shot wound, leg, multiple). Died of wounds, No 8 Casualty Clearing Station, 21 July 1916. Buried at Bailleul Cemetery by Reverend A.F. Fern, 21 July 1916. Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal |
