Military Medal 'During the advance on the 18th September, 1918, near LE VERGUIER, heavy machine gun fire was encountered when approaching the final objective. Private CORNELL on his own initiative organised a party and creeping forward bombed the enemy gunners, and captured two machine guns and several prisoners. private CORNELL's gallant and resourceful action enabled the remainder of his Company to gain the objective without any further casualties.'
