'For consistently good and courageous work. As Sergeant Cook this N.C.O. has been unfailing in his endeavours to keep up a high standard among the Battalion Cooks and to ensure that the men get good and sufficient meals. In the line Sergeant Cornish has been particularly worthy of praise, carrying on always with a cheerfulness and courage which has had a marked effect on the men under his immediate supervision and as a result of the moral of the Battalion. Undoubtedly, during the period from 25th February to September 16th/17th September his unceasing labours have helped greatly in keeping the men fit for the strenuous work in the line and consequently he has been one of the strongest links in the chain of the Battalion success.'
