'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led an attacking party with great gallantry, and captured an enemy strong point, together with 29 prisoners. Later, although severely wounded, he continued to command his men.'

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in personally supervising the laying of his jumping off tapes in 'No Man's Land' under heavy shelling. On the same evening he skilfully stopped a retirement of a neighbouring unit which left the flank of the brigade in a precarious condition.'
