'For gallantry and devotion to duty during the operation near DERNANCOURT South West of ALBERT on 5th April, 1918. This man was a stretcher bearer. During the heavy barrage on the morning of the 5th April, 1918 he went out at great personal risk bandaged wounded and brought them to cover. He followed up the attack in the afternoon amidst terrific Machine Gun fire and brought a number of wounded to places of safety. He worked hard all night bringing in wounded from No Man's Land at very great personal risk.'
